Claude Monet

The man who said, “I want to paint the way a bird sings,” lived from November 14, 1840 to December 5, 1926.

Claude Monet was a key founder of the Impressionist movement, spending his life depicting nature as he perceived it.  Critics claim this opened the door to Modernism and all that came after.

Frequently exhibited and successful during his lifetime, Monet’s fame and popularity soared in the second half of the 20th century when he became one of the world’s most famous painters and a source of inspiration for upcoming artists.
