Here’s the skinny:
Drama therapy activities are designed to build community, practice verbal and nonverbal communication skills, and promote cognitive skills for elderly adults in nursing homes or assisted living arrangements. Through games, readings, visuals, and guided discussion residents will be supported and encouraged to use their experiences and imagination to explore and act out stories and roles–some of the classics–and some brand new!
Our certified therapist, Kathleen, will work with residents and staff to create a relaxed, safe, and spirited space where participants can feel comfortable creatively expressing their internal and external worlds. In addition to improving self-expression, drama therapy can help the elderly feel more connected, meet personal goals, and enhance their coping skills. A series of Drama Therapy sessions may (but do not have to), result in performances, with individuals, pairs or groups reading poetry, dialogue or prose!
